Small business needs IT, finance, marketing skills and training

Many small businesses lack confidence in their information technology (IT) skills, according to a survey conducted by Woolcott Research for Optus. The survey found SMEs were least confident about IT (35% said this was a weak area) followed by financial management (16%) and marketing (15%). These three skills were also highest on their training wishlists.

"53% of small businesses said they were not doing any business skills training:’ says Phil Offer, marketing director for Optus Small and Medium Business. "The majority think they need about six hours a month." The top three sources of information for SMEs were accountants (72%). small business websites (39%) and the media (35%).
